In 1921, she launched Chanel No 5, the first fragrance to bear the name of a fashion designer &#8211; composed by Ernest Beaux with a then-unprecedented concentration of aldehydes. To this day, the House remains privately owned by the brothers Alain and G\u00e9rard Wertheimer. Virginie Viard has been artistic director of the collections since 2019, before handing over to Matthieu Blazy in 2024.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Coco Chanel legacy<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men&#8217;s jersey applied to women&#8217;s fashion (1916), the tweed suit (1920s), the little black dress (1926), the 2.55 bag (February 1955, hence its name), two-tone shoes (1957) &#8211; Chanel systematically borrowed from masculine codes to free the female body from sartorial constraints.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chanel today: couture, fragrances, beauty<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No 5, Coco Mademoiselle, Chance, Bleu de Chanel &#8211; four of the world&#8217;s best-selling fragrances. Chanel Beaut\u00e9 &#8211; lipstick, foundation, skincare. Chanel Jewelry &#8211; Cam\u00e9lia, Com\u00e8te, Coco Crush.
