With the Fall 2022 Pre-Collection, Creative Director Matthew M. Williams consolidates his message for Givenchy by revisiting its tailoring heritage and exploring House archetypes through a contemporary lens.

Informed by the experimentations with proportion and scale seen on the runway for Spring-Summer 2022, everyday statement pieces for women and men focus on nuanced volumes, signature hardware, craft and innovative techniques.

“I am really focused on exploring Givenchy’s heritage while also looking toward the future. I believe fashion is relevant when it reflects what it means to live today; there’s a constant tension between everyday reality and the precision, elegance and extravagance of the couture tradition,” Matthew M. Williams, Creative Director of Givenchy.

Key themes for women and men feature specially developed hardware signatures, creating a visual bridge from ready-to-wear to accessories. In the same spirit, the new “Art” denim collection showcases research into technique: gauze overlays or time-intensive printed, destroyed, bleached, and overdyed effects inject pieces with extra soul. Special treatments like lasered monograms and bleached jacquard give denim depth and reinforce this emerging Givenchy signature.

Women’s essentials include a structured skirt worn over slim-cut, flared trousers for an elongated silhouette. Day-to-night separates highlight strong shoulders or feature cutaway details. Peplums with restrained volumes become elevated staples with a front zip closure.

Recalling another facet of the House’s DNA, lace provides a counterpoint to razor-sharp tailoring: a backless dress with a star strap system balances structure and lightness. Leather bonded to jersey is designed to be worn against the skin, fusing Givenchy’s signature polish with the ease of a windbreaker.
