London-based Womenswear designer Paula Canovas del Vas returned to Paris for a first solo show staged in a former Parisian print shop at Canal Saint-Martin on the night of Wednesday 23rd January 2019.

The Autumn-Winter 2019 collection was inspired by the works of Lynda Benglis, Vladimir Nabokov’s Laughter in the Dark, Maria Callas and Chris Cunningham, with notable references to Satoshi Kon’s Paprika. Structures and volumes were rendered by mohair, latex and boiled wool, entirely handcrafted in the studio using carefully sourced materials.

Paula Canovas del Vas established her namesake label upon graduating from the Central Saint Martins BA and MA, with a debut collection presented at London Fashion Week in February 2018 and sold at Dover Street Market Ginza.

Its forward-thinking aesthetic interrogates established interpretations of femininity and power using thought- provoking contrasts: inserting handmade traditional crafts and machinery onto sculptural proportions and vivid chromatic palettes.

Paula Canovas del Vas partners closely with multiple creatives following collaborations with brands including NIKE for the launch of VaporMax®, and intern positions at Maison Margiela under the direction of John Galliano and Gucci under Alessandro Michele. Her last collaborative project, ‘Objet Trouve’, was presented at Palais de Tokyo in July 2018.
