New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 – Day 3

PINK TARTAN – Day 3 of New York Fashion Week and Luxsure there to attend some very feminine Spring/Summer 2012 Women’s Collections, as well as one highly anticipated menswear show. First on the list, Kim Newport-Mimran’s Pink Tartan SS12 Presentation, held for the first time as part of the official NYFW on-site schedule. The collection was a mix of English Mod style and Mediterranean glamour. Something you would see in a 1960s stroll through St. Tropez or summer night clubbing in London. Plenty of sequins (trend alert), polkadots, bursts of orange, and easy shirt dresses make for a very flirty European collection.
The Toronto-based label shows regularly at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week and Joe “Fresh Style” Mimran’s better half has appeared to have aligned strategy with her husband’s label eyeing the lucrative US market. Joe Fresh Style is set to open it’s NYC doors this fall and the campaign ads have started to grace the pages of local magazines and subway cars. Will Pink Tartan follow suit with their own boutique? MARLON GOBEL – Marlon Gobel is one of the most talent and creative designers in America at the moment. Now into his fourth season, his fresh Thom Browne-ish fun and quirky peacock wear has found a permanent home in the menswear store at Bergdorf’s. Not an easy thing. The thing we love about Marlon is that he’s fresh and a true original. A testament to that is the Gobel-inspired look that has been cropping up in the collections of some of Europe’s most prestigious fashion houses.
For Spring/Summer 2012 Marlon has found inspiration in the multi-coloured Super Mart and 1980′s to modern day Pop Art movement. More on his rousing collection in an upcoming post. For more photos please click here.

FARAH ANGSANA – As Pink Tartan turned to 1960′s Europe and Marlon Gobel to 1980′s Pop Art – Farah Angsana has looked east to the enchantment of the Orient for her SS12 inspiration. The cherry blossoms of Japan, Asian embroidery, and even a kimono jacket blend cultural elements seamlessly with modern details and interpretations of colour into her elegant feminine pieces for SS12. Style and wearability reign supreme in this collection designed for the sophisticated and confident modern woman. Much like Barbara Tfank FW11, Angsana found inspiration in a painting she saw in an art gallery in Shanghai. Ivory, shades of pink, hues of blue, nude tones, and a glorious canopy of reds are prominent throughout and enchant and seduce us. For more photos please click here.

HONOR – Giovanna Randall’s HONOR SS12 Colleciton bucks the bright/neon colour trend opting for muted colours and late 1950s to early 1960s Mad Men era designs that come together for youthful, almost fragile porcelain doll-like looks. Loved the dresses, but could have done without the suits. For more photos please click here.

EVA MINGE – Polish designer Eva Minge held her SS12 Fashion Show in the Hudson Hotel on Day 3, where she advised us all that she would start promptly at 8pm. That mean 9pm in Polish time because the show started very late and went on for an eternity. It caused most to miss the luxurious Venexiana fashion show at the Lincoln Center in place for what was a mix of sleazy, sub-par, porn star wear. Maybe it wasn’t all that bad. There were a few choice pieces in swim, average menswear, sexy shoes, some descent women’s gowns and suits – but they were lost in a mess of Breton Stripe and confusing zipper overload. Someone should have sat down with Eva and her collection down to the best pieces. While they were at it, they should have explained that she’s not the only one showing at NYFW and starting an hour late off-site means missing the next show. For more photos please click here.
